Essential Supplies for Tent Camping

Tent Camping Doesnt Mean Roughing It

Just because you are tent camping doesnt mean you have to rough it, ok, maybe you have to go without electricity, but there are so many new products for camping in a tent that you may not even miss the electronics.

Commune with nature, actually unplug and enjoy being with family and friends without the interruption of the TV, cell phones and other electronic devices. Sit by a camp fire, look at the stars, read a book during the day while watching the boats go by on the lake.

Tent Camping for the Whole Family

Finding the Perfect Tent

Tents and Supplies for the Camping Family

There are many different styles of tents for those that want to rough it in the wilderness, or at their local state park. With summer and camping season just starting now is the perfect time to get that tent, learn how to put it up and start the season right.

For families a separate screened in entry is important. Not only can kids shoes and outer clothing be left on the “tent porch” but it helps keep mosquitoes and other insects out of the sleeping area.

Camping Lamps and Flashlights

Camping in the Dark

There is no need to be in the dark when you are camping. There are plenty of tent lanterns and personal flashlights which not only shed light where you need it but also have other function. This lantern is designed to hang inside your tent, uses D batteries and includes a small fan to circulate air. Very useful on a hot, sticky, humid night. It will give 50 hours of fan circulation on one set of batteries.

The small personal flashlight with the hook is my favorite, it can be hooked on a tree branch, or on your shirt as you are walking to the bathrooms. There is a handy magnet on the back will stick to the outside of your car or anything else metal. I keep one in my glove box.

You can’t beat headlamps though. Get one for every person camping. Search and carry firewood in the dark, carry a small child to the bathroom in the middle of the night, or walk back from the lake with your fishing equipment all without fumbling with a hand-held flashlight. These things are priceless!!

Camping Cots and Sleeping Bags

Tent Camping in Comfort

Just because you’re living in a tent during your family vacation doesn’t mean you “have” to sleep on the floor. I personally use an air mattress and it’s as comfortable as sleeping on my bed at home. My 50 year old body does NOT like rocks, sticks and the hard ground.

My husband just bought an Army cot to go elk hunting this fall and they are amazingly comfortable too. Even babies can be warm and comfortable in their own zippered baby sleeping bag, thing slug.

What More Do You Need When You Camp?

The Great Outdoors, Nature, and a Sense of Adventure

What else do you need when you camp other than a place to lay your head and sleep, a way to see in the dark, food and shelter? Seriously camping takes you back to nature, away from technology and refreshes the soul and mind. A weekend in the woods can alleviate stress, decrease your blood pressure and prepare you for the “rat race” of everyday life.

You may find out you want to make camping a regular hobby, and make it a goal to travel the country or the world with just a tent on your back, a sleeping bag, and a few changes of clothes. Until then enjoy the journey.

  1. Oh we haven’t been camping in ages; you’re giving me the camping bug again! We have one of those two room tents and I love it. The “cookbooks” look very interesting!

I have heard that families that camp together get a particular closeness above all others. Here is some great camping gear. I especially liked the big tent.
